                            BOX + COX

'Box + Cox' was a joint exhibition with Dialogist-Kantor and Andrew Webb at the Annie Gentils Gallery, Antwerpen from 15 June 2006 until 15 August 2006.  The invitation card was designed by Carlos Montalvo.

The following works are by Andrew Webb.

"Black Spot"   2006

'Green Spot' Whiskey Bottle, Wooden shelf, Red Theatrical Spotlight.

"Brush With Death, The Mourning After."   2006

Broom Handle and Fixing, Wood, Marble.

In 2004 the artist moved into a new studio, a back -house in the Rue Du Croissant, in Forest, Brussels.  The building was owned by a Monsieur Nagy and his young buisiness partner Rashid. Rashid was a keen fisherman whose dream was to travel and fish in the USA. After a flood in the studio he gave Webb a large, disused broom, ideal for brushing the water back to the land drain from where it came.  A week later Rashid was killed in an accident on the building site where he worked.

The title remembers the extrodinary story of El Cordobes, Matador; "Or I'll Dress You in Mourning."

"The Angle of Eternity"   2006

Wood, Oil Paint, Brass Door Fittings.

"I have always wanted to make a work of art directly influenced by the writings of Alfred Jarry"  AW

"The Martyrdom of Saints Cosmas and Damian."   2006

Missal Covers, Oil Paint, Gold Leaf                  on Board,Framed under glass.

Cosmas and Damian were christian martyrs, executed in ca 287AD.  Originally from Arabia, they were also known as the "Unmercenary Physicians" and "The Silverless".

"Weg Ten Hemel II (Apprentice Piece II)"   2006

Wood, Gesso, Gold Leaf, Missal, Wire Traps.

The idea for this exhibition came about as a result of a visit by the gallerist to the show "Waxing and Wanning" by Webb, at the Bureau De Port in Brussels, the previous year.
Also shown were a selection of nine of Webb's collage series, entitled "Unfolding Leaves",  the street sign piece "Rue du Croissant/Halvemannstraat" and an earlier version of "4AW" which was accompanied by two large collages.  A small collage from the series "The Inventor of... " after Joseph Beuys hung on the chimney breast downstairs;  "The Inventor of Hairloss."
