                  UNFOLDING LEAVES

"Unfolding Leaves, #I  (The Three Hearts)"   2005

This collage used prayer cards similar to the one used by Joseph Beuys in his work called "The Inventor of ...." [See Box + Cox).  It is clear that the Artist had in mind the story of how Beuys, James Lee Byars and Michael Verner made a pact to effect that in the event of one of them dying, the remaining two had the right to open the chest of the corpse to discover from what the persons' heart was made from.  Beuys died first and despite constant protestation from Byars, the widow refused and the body cremated - Byars was convinced the heart was made of lead.
